About

Kevin has held several engineering and senior management positions in the high tech industry over the past 14 years. Kevin started his career as a Senior Research Engineer at Computing Devices Canada (now General Dynamics Canada) where he developed a sighting system mount for a grenade launcher and early stage analysis of an advanced land fire control system for main battle tanks. He moved on to become the VP Engineering of Control Advancements, a Waterloo based company, where Kevin oversaw the development of several products including the first haptic-enabled screen reading system for low vision users.

Kevin went on to become the President of Alliance Technologies, an engineering services firm, which provided a range of electrical, mechanical and software development services to local businesses. Prior to joining Communitech, Kevin was a co-founder and CTO of Handshake VR Inc., a company that specialized in the creation and deployment of haptic and telehaptic applications. During his tenure at Handshake, Kevin led the technical development of the company’s products, including the first graphically based toolkit for rapid development of haptic and telehaptic applications.

Since February 2008, Kevin has been serving as CTO-in-Residence at Communitech as part of the Venture Support Group, which is responsible for providing mentorship and coaching to early stage companies. Most recently, Kevin has been named the Managing Director of Canada’s Digital Media Network (National Centre of Excellence) and VP Digital Media to lead the Digital Media Convergence Centre in Kitchener, Ontario – the first of two hubs on Canada’s Digital Media Network. Kevin has an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo.
